Our Story
Our story started with a dream
The Dream That Changed Everything
That of a 34-year-old agricultural engineer, father of two children and with a full life, who decided to follow his heart and become a veterinarian. Against all expectations, he enrolled in the Veterinary Medicine course at EUVG, in Coimbra, determined to transform his love for animals into his life mission.
Birth of FamilyVet
On May 1, 2011, the first office was born, in a small alley in Santa Clara, hidden behind Portugal dos Pequenitos. Thus was born the embryo of what is now u003cstrongu003eFamilyVetu003c/strongu003e, at the hands of Dr. Rui Ferreira. From the beginning, the family’s unconditional support was the mainstay of the entire project.
The Discovery of Complementary Therapies
But Dr. Rui didn’t stop there. His desire to heal went beyond Western medicine, delving into the study of Traditional Chinese Medicine applied to veterinary medicine. This passion for complementary therapies, such as acupuncture, laser therapy or ozone therapy, has become one of the hallmarks of our clinic.
A Team Born at Home
Dr. Rui’s wife, Dr. Lena, has always been by his side. Known to everyone as u003cstrongu003eLenau003c/strongu003e, she has a master’s degree in Microbiology from the University of Aveiro and is a clinical analysis technician at HUC. Seeing her husband’s love for veterinary medicine, she decided to join the mission. She trained in management and specialized in veterinary microbiology, in addition to becoming a grooming technician. Today, she is the clinic manager — always with a smile and the dedication of someone who takes care of a family project with pride.
Passion passes from generation to generation
The passion was also passed on to the next generation. Beatriz, who was only 5 years old when it all started, decided to follow in her father’s footsteps. She studied veterinary medicine, traveled to Barcelona and Poland, where she specialized in surgery, and today, having graduated, she has joined the team that grew with her. It was also with her that the dream of a modern, welcoming and humane clinic was born — a space where furry friends and their owners truly feel at home.
