For travel within the EU, your pet must:

Be identified with a microchip.

Have a European pet passport issued by an authorised veterinarian.

Be vaccinated against rabies, with the vaccination valid and recorded in the passport

Requirements vary depending on the destination country. In general, the following are required:

Microchip.

Valid rabies vaccination.

International health certificate issued by an official veterinarian.

Possibly serological tests or quarantine, depending on the country

It is recommended to consult the embassy or veterinary authority of the destination country for specific information.

To travel with your pet between Portugal and Brazil, the requirements vary depending on the direction of travel:

From Portugal to Brazil (outbound): The animal must be vaccinated against rabies with a valid annual vaccine. Antibody titration is not required to enter Brazil.

From Brazil to Portugal (return): To return to Portugal, the animal must have undergone a neutralizing antibody titration against the rabies virus, with a satisfactory result (≥ 0.5 IU/ml), performed at least 30 days after vaccination and 3 months before travel. This requirement applies to countries considered to be at high risk of rabies, such as Brazil.

If your animal already has a valid antibody titration and the rabies vaccination has been kept up to date (without interruptions), the previous titration remains valid and it is not necessary to repeat the test to return to Portugal.

It is recommended that you consult the competent veterinary authorities or your veterinarian for updated information specific to your case..

You must update your registration with SIAC whenever there is:

Change of owner (transfer of ownership).

Change of address or contact details.

Loss or death of the animal.

These updates must be communicated to SIAC by an authorised veterinarian.

Yes. If your pet stays in Portugal for 120 days or more, you are required to register it in the SIAC (Companion Animal Information System), even if it already has a microchip from another country. This registration must be done by an authorized veterinarian.
